We had a date with history.

Yesterday, we took a day trip to Staunton, VA, to tour Blackfriars Playhouse (a recreation of the London theater where many of Shakespeare's plays were originally staged) and to visit the American Frontier Culture Museum. Although the sky was overcast, the rain stayed away. The grounds were a bit sloppy, but I guess that helped add to the authenticity of our farm experience.

Noah was having a rather difficult day, refusing to listen to anyone or anything and decorating his pants with markers. But we learned quite a few things from Alexa:

1. When in a Shakespearean play, the role of the queen is preferrable. And if you can't be queen, Barbie is the next best choice.
2. Farm chickens should be loudly instructed to walk like pigeons.
3. Ladybugs scream "AAAAAHHH" if you take them for a car ride.
and
4. To get a cow to make chocolate milk, you have to shove a candy bar up its bottom.

Forsooth, it was an educational day at the Roussel Roost.

She knows "Garden Fierce."

The bazillion photos I posted of Lex on Shutterfly were taken at an impromptu photo shoot during Andy's Home and Garden extravaganza yesterday afternoon. Tyra Banks and the Jays (from America's Next Top Model, for those of you unfamiliar with the CW) would be proud.

I only wanted to take a picture of her worm farm. See, according to Lex, she accidentally buried the worms' father, so now she has to take care of Pretzel, Princess and Sam. She did not have time, she claimed, to name the other worms. However, she clearly had time for 100 or so frames of photos. She seemed very aware of her body angles but often struggled to "find the light." Nonetheless, I think the dirt on her nose and dress made the photos very "editorial."

Even Daisy got in on the photo action. You may or may not be able to see the bits of Scott's Patch Master stuck to her fur. I'm a little concerned that since I gave her a bath shortly afterwards that she might start sprouting grass in a few days. I'll keep you posted.

Noah missed the photo session since he was busy tracking dirt up 2 flights of stairs. He will be part of the carpet cleaning photo shoot to be held this evening.

It was a dirty day at the Roussel Roost.

Brown is the new purple.

Noah got his brown belt today. Alexa was jealous and wanted a black belt, but she settled for a playdate with Miranda, who also loves sparkles and horses. Noah is losing brain cells playing Mario Galaxy with our next door neighbor, Jakob. And Andy is very happy because his satellite signal issue has been resolved.

Other than that, it's a quiet weekend at the Roussel Roost.
